Why Would I Put Oil on my Face?

We admit it, we were skeptics too.

In high school our founder, Monica, would spend hours in the drug store cosmetic aisles trying to figure out what was going to rid her forehead of the pesky bumps and hormonal acne around her chin. Her assumption was she needed something strong, potent and drying to *zap* her skin. Living on the east coast, her skin was constantly oily (thanks humidity) and she wanted to dry it out. Was she willing to try oil moisturizers, HELL NO.

Needless to say, all of those potent, alcohol based, drying agents never really worked.

Putting oil on your face as a cleanser or moisturizer seems counterproductive and we’ve heard the question many of times, “Why would I put oil on my face?

Our face oil’s aren’t made with just any oils and are specially formulated to mimic the the natural oils in your skin as to not cause reactions. The base oil in our face oils, jojoba, has a similar make-up to the sebum our skin produces to keep our skin moisturized. Sebum is a combination of different lipids like fatty acid, cholesterol, wax esters, cholesterol esters and glycerides. Similar to sebum, Jojoba is considered a liquid wax and is easily absorbed by our skin mimicking it’s natural moisturizer making it good for all skin types

FOR DRY SKIN

Jojoba improves the overall feel of skin and is known for substantial long-lasting skin hydration. A benefit of jojoba mimicking our skins natural oils the balance it brings to our skins moisture when we stop producing it naturally.

For dry skin types we suggest applying 4-6 drops of our daily dew morning and night after you cleanse in place of your moisturizer. As our face oils are made up of dry oils you shouldn’t feel greasy or oily but rather create a moisture layer that will be absorbed into your skin and help equalize your sebum production to even out dryness. Because jojoba is an emollient and a noncomedogenic it works by trapping water in our skin but won’t clog pores and cause break outs.

FOR OILY / ACNE PRONE SKIN

When our skin produces too much sebum (puberty or times of high hormone levels) we get oily or acne prone skin. Our base oil, jojoba, helps remove oily buildup and brings balance back to your skin. As it is a noncomedogenic it will not clog your pores, but rather, acts as a protectant and cleanser from future breakouts. It’s iodine rich make-up helps fight harmful bacterial growth and antioxidant levels soothe fine lines, wrinkles and slow the signs of aging.

For oily skin we suggest starting with 2-5 drops of our daily dew at night just after you cleanse and slowly add it into your morning routine allowing ample time for it to soak into your skin before applying make-up.

THE BREAK-IN PERIOD

Be warned. It is common when making a switch in your skincare regimen to see break outs for the first 1-2 weeks. During this time your skin is adjusting and “purging,” especially when switching to a non-toxic natural product.
